So many hours crocheting and honestly, I'm starting to feel a little Loop - y!
Happy New Year! 🥳
I recently learned how to do a mosaic (Fiesta CAL) blanket by Tina Thorudottir Thorvaldar. I loved how this blanket pushed me outside my comfort zone in crochet, and this blanket has also challenged my mind, my crochet skill set, my thought processes, mindfulness in crochet, and so much more.
The yarn I used for this Fiesta CAL Blanket is Woodlands 8-ply yarn (200 gramme balls) from Bendigo Woollen Mills. The colours I used for this blanket are Fog (dark grey), Mist (light grey), Pitch (black), Natural (cream), and Burnt Amber (mustard). This yarn is a blend of 83% wool, 10% bamboo, 4% mohair, and 3% neps. I used a 4.5-mm hook size for this blanket. The size of the octagon flower square is 29 cm x 29 cm, the size of the small flower square is 11 cm x 11 cm, and the triangles are 12 cm x 7 cm.
What is Mosaic Crochet?
Mosaic crochet creates colour patterns by working different colours of yarn down into previous rows. You only work one colour per row and do not have to deal with the complications of switching colours every few stitches. Mosaic crochet is a colorwork technique that is easier than it looks. It is a great way to create eye-catching, amazing, and beautiful designs using just basic crochet techniques and stitches. This technique produces a geometric effect, similar to geometric tiled floors. The best thing about mosaic crochet is that it is made with stripes of colours, meaning you can create patterns without changing colours midway through a row. The mosaic crochet design is worked from the front side only, from right to left for right-handed crocheters or left to right for left-handed crocheters.
