Five Things I Love About Crocheting

So many hours crocheting and honestly, I'm starting to feel a little Loop - y!

Shall we talk about the 5 things I love about crocheting? I wonder whether my list is similar to yours.

  1. The texture of beautiful and high-quality yarns. Working with high-quality yarn is such a pleasure for my hands. The wool and cotton I use from Bendigo Woollen Mills in Victoria, Australia, glide through my fingers, working a special kind of magic that produces spectacular finished products. Beautiful yarn almost always guarantees beautiful products.

  2. Starting a new project. The challenge and the excitement I get from starting a new project that I have never done before are a thrill for me. I envision the finished product right from the first slip stitch I make on my hook.

  3. Pattern Surfing. My down time, by which I mean when I’m not interacting with my yarn and hook, is spent pattern surfing. Wow, there are so many incredibly talented crocheters and pattern designers out there that I love to be inspired and learn new ideas.

  4. It’s 100% portable. Crochet is the ultimate portable craft to slip into your oversized bag and take with you everywhere. Because I crochet when I am out and about, the beautiful conversations that my craft sparks are delightful. People are sharing warm memories from their childhood about how their grandmother always crocheted. The pleasure I get from hearing their stories and seeing the light in their eyes as they share such memories is a privilege I never take for granted.

  5. Crocheting is calming and helps with my anxiety. I have severe generalised anxiety disorder and was diagnosed with this label at a very young age. This is one of the reasons my mum taught me to crochet—to help change my interaction with the world in a positive and non-pharmaceutical way. Crocheting provides me with so much pleasure that my fears and worries wash away with every stitch I make.

I know my blog is about crocheting, but I am sure I am not the only one who loves conversationalist Sir David Attenborough, who has been my idol since I was little. I sent the award-winning documentarian a letter explaining to him how much he inspired me. To my great surprise, I received a handwritten letter back, written on his personal stationery. The excitement still wells up in my chest as I share this with you. So, with my handwritten letter framed proudly on my wall, I hope I inspire other people with disabilities and personal challenges (and we all have personal challenges at times) not to give up on their dreams.

I've gotta go! Ya, girl is hooked and busy ❤
