Happy Mother's Day!

I Love You Mother Bear Blanket Free Pattern

'Designed by my 14 year old sister, Eve and crocheted by me :)'

So many hours crocheting and honestly, I'm starting to feel a little Loop - y!

I believe Mother's Day should be celebrated everyday of the year so I have made this blanket in honour of that.

It took me two and a half weeks to make this blanket. The most challenging part was crocheting the words and counting the foundation chain. The best part of crocheting this beautiful blanket was seeing the scalloped border grow and doing my favourite stitch (the bobble stitch, aka the popcorn stitch). However, my favourite part of crocheting this blanket was seeing the look on the persons when I gave the blanket to them.

For this blanket, I have chosen to do a scalloped border, which looks amazing. You can do any style of border that you desire. The colour I used for this blanket is called 'Periwinkle' from Bendigo Woollen Mills. Bendigo Woollen Mills is based in Bendigo, Victoria, Australia. I've found that their wool is the best to crochet with. I used 100% wool from the Classic 8ply section. Wool size

I used 8ply wool with a 4mm crochet hook. You can use any ply of yarn and any size crochet hook. The recommended size hook for 8 ply wool is between 4.00mm and 5.50mm.

Begin the Border (Skip if you are doing your own Border)

With the bobble side facing upwards on the right side of the blanket, re-join your yarn to the blanket by inserting the crochet hook into the second space near the corner (do not go into the fibres of the stitches). This will make the edge uneven. Draw through the yarn to pull up a loop to begin. There are two options for the corners:

Option One: 3 single crochets in the corner.

Option Two: 1 single crochet, 2 chains, and 1 single crochet in the corner.

I use Option One for all the borders I make for my blankets.

Border

Row 1-2: Ch 1, 1 single crochet in each stitch, and in each row along, 3 single crochets in each corner. Join with a slip stitch into the first single crochet.

Row 3 Shell Edging: (With yarn still attached) ch 1, skip next stitch, *5 double crochet into next stitch, skip a stitch, slip stitch into next stitch. Skip a stitch, repeat from * around the edge of the blanket, and your shells will flow perfectly around each corner. There is no need to get a shell exactly into the corner. Slip stitch into the last stitch to complete your shell border. Fasten off and sew in your ends with a wool needle.
